Things You Need to Prepare Cup Cakes

!: Things You Need to Prepare Cup Cakes

In earlier times cup cakes were made in heavy pottery cups. Even in present day also these are made in pottery cups or coffee mugs by some bakers. There was a time when muffin cups were not available and people used pottery cups to bake the cup cakes. So inherently the name derives from of being baked in a cup size mold. Because of the fanciful description and design of the cake it is known as fairy cake too. The other main difference is that these are made by measuring the volume unlike the normal desserts which are measured as per weight. Usually these are baked in tins or loaves. The cupcakes baked in kitchen are also known as quarter cakes.

The materials used in making the cup cakes are butter, sugar, flour and eggs. One can prepare these cakes at home and they would taste even greater. You can also buy these from your favorite bakery. Those who are allergic to eggs can avoid using eggs in the cakes and can use gel from edible agar to make the cake. One can also use different materials which are edible to decorate the cup cakes.

Even if you are not a professional cook, you can bake cup cakes at your home. You can add chocolate flavor to make chocolate cup-cake and also you can add grated small pieces of coconuts to give it a taste of original coconut. There are different variants of these cakes depending on the size and the ingredients used in the cup cakes. Another type of it is the butterfly cake. It is called so because it has wings like projections. Another type is a cake ball and forms a portion of the cake. Mixture of crumbled cake mixed with frosting makes this type of cake.

You can add carrot pieces and cashew to make the taste of the cake exotic. Once you have made cupcakes you can send it to your friends and relatives. Sprinkles are decorations on the cup cakes which simulate the decorations on a large cake. You can put the cakes in a decorated small box and then send it to your friends. However you should use good packaging material so that the cupcakes are not wasted while they are transported. You can also put a level of handle with care on the box carrying the cupcakes.

Bat Mitzvah Party Theme - She's So Sweet (Candy Theme)

!: Bat Mitzvah Party Theme - She's So Sweet (Candy Theme)

Throwing a theme party is a wonderful opportunity to direct one's party planning efforts from party invitations through party favors. For a Bat Mitzvah. "She's the Sweetest" candy theme is tons of fun for the party planners and guests alike. Not to mention delicious!

Invitations: Set the mood for the party by sending out candy-themed invitations. There are many ready-made, as well as custom invitations, that can be purchased that have a candy theme to them. You can even purchase edible invitations! These typically are either 'chocolate invitations' in which a mold is created especially for your invitations or 'cookie' invitations that have an edible transfer on them that includes the pertinent info regarding your party (place, time, etc.). Although postage is considerably more for these types of invitations, they are certainly unique and fun.

Edible Place cards: Let your place cards do double duty for you. Personalized label mint tins and candy bar wrappers can serve as place cards too! (Just make sure if you are using the latter to write on the label with a felt tip pen so that there is no chance of tearing the label).

Decorations: Here you need to be a bit creative because there aren't a lot of pre-made 'candy decorations'. But here are some ideas to help spur your creative juices:

· Take inspiration from the game "Candyland". Enlist the help of an artistic friend to make larger-than-lifesize candies and memorabilia from the game.

· Decorate with Pinatas. Search the web for sources. You can even find places that will custom make piñatas for you.

· Make your own candy posters. Go to Google Images and search on the term "Candy" or a particular brand of candy. Pick wonderfully colorful images and then work with a printing company (Kinko's or a local printer) and ask them to create poster board, glossy images of them to hang throughout the party room. Not only will they look wonderful, the female guests will love to take them home after the party to use to decorate their rooms.

Centerpieces: With candy as your theme, the sky is the limit with the fun you can have with candy centerpieces. A few suggestions:

· Fill clear vases (very inexpensive to purchase at craft stores) with the candy of your choice and wrap a big, color coordinated satin ribbon bow around each vase. All tables can be the same candy (all M&Ms, all jelly beans, etc). or each table can be a particular type or brand of candy. Make sure you include a mini scoop at each table as well as favor bags so guests can take home the candies.

· Personalized Lollipop centerpiece arrangements. Here, instead of having flowers on each table have personalized lollipops (chocolate or hard candy) be the 'flowers'. Guests will 'pick' a lollipop from the arrangement after the meal and dessert has been served. Not sure how to create one? Turn to Google Images once again for inspiration; simply type in "Lollipop Centerpieces"

Soft-Serve Station: Make your dessert extra special (and fun!) by offering a soft serve station that features a large selection of candy toppings. Just make sure you have several wait staff working the station so that the line can go rather quickly.

Favors: Many of the ideas already listed can also serve as your party favor. However, if want to give a non-edible party favor than look for gifts that can be personalized with a candy theme such as grippy socks or squishy pillows.

Fixing Common Cooking Mistakes

!: Fixing Common Cooking Mistakes

Bread is too soft to slice: Freeze it and slice it frozen. Bread Stale: Sprinkle it with a small amount of water, put it in foil, and bake in an oven at moderate heat for about ten minutes. Cake Stuck to Pan: Let it sit until it is a little cooler, and then try again. If it's already cold, reheat for a minute or two. Cheese tough or rubbery after cooking: Blend in a blender or food processor at low speed for a minute or two, then cook slowly. Coffee or broth cloudy: add eggshells. Coffee overcooked: Add a pinch of salt Dough is lumpy: Add more liquid and pound the dough thoroughly. Dough won't rise: Put the bowl of dough in a warmer place - in an oven, for instance, with a pilot light (do not turn the oven on). You could also mix a bit more yeast in ¼-cup warm water and knead into dough. Dough won't shape: Let it rest for 15 minutes. Eggs crack when cooking: Put in 1 teaspoonful of salt and a bit of lemon or vinegar into the water to keep whites from oozing out of the shell. Egg whites won't whip: Add a bit of baking soda or salt. Fudge hard: Add a tablespoon of milk and 2-3 tablespoonfuls of corn syrup and beat, then pour. Put in an airtight container for 24 hours. Gelatin stuck in mold: Dip the mold in hot water, but not so the gelatin is touched by the water, for just a few seconds. Put the mold on a plate, turn it upside down and shake. Gravy gray: Add red currant jelly, soy sauce, a bit of sherry, meat extract, or 1 teaspoon instant coffee. Gravy lumpy: Beat it with eggbeater or wire whisk. Strain it. Gravy salty: Make more. Sometimes adding a bit of brown sugar helps. Cook small pieces of potato into the gravy. Ham salty: Soak slices in milk for 15 minutes to a half-hour. Wash off. Icing sugared: Add a bit of vinegar and keep cooking. Lemon hard: Heat it for 5 minutes in boiling water or for 15 seconds in a microwave on HIGH, then try juicing it. Meat burned: Cut off burned parts, cube and sauce the rest. Serve over pasta. Pasta stuck together: Put back in boiling water with a tablespoon or so of oil in it. Pie dough burning on edge: Cover edge with aluminum foil. Popcorn won't pop: Soak corn in water for 5 minutes, dry off and try again. For very recalcitrant corn, freeze overnight and pop while frozen. Rice burned: Get it off the flame, then put a piece of bread on top of it, cover for 5 minutes. Scummy stock: Add leek tops and tomato peels, which absorb the scum. Soup too salty: Slice in potato, simmer until potato turns translucent, then lift potato out. Stew meat tough: if you haven't had the time to let the stew continue cooking under gentle heat, add a few tomatoes or a teaspoon of sugar to tenderize it. Vegetable old: To pep them up, add a pinch or two of sugar and a little salt to the cooking water. Vegetables overcooked: Puree them. Or make a cream soup of them Or put them in an oven-safe dish, cover them with bread crumbs and grated Parmesan cheese, and broil for a couple of minutes. Vegetables too salty: Pour the water out, rinse them off, and return them to the stove in new water. If you are already done, wash in hot water. Whipping cream won't whip: chill everything (bowl, cream, beaters) and try again. If that fails, add an unbeaten egg white or 3-4 drops of lemon juice and whip as hard as you can.

Learn How to Make Edible Cake Flowers

!: Learn How to Make Edible Cake Flowers

If you have ever seen a wedding cake or a really nicely decorated cake at another event you may have noticed the edible flowers on top. These are very appealing decorations that really add a lot to the cakes. For as cool as these flowers are they really are not that difficult to make. Most of these flowers only consist of two or three ingredients and they are pretty basic. Learning how to make edible cake flowers is a step in the right decoration for anyone who wants to make decorative desserts. Making a chocolate flower is one of the easiest types to make and can be achieved with just two ingredients.

Chocolate flowers are made from melted semisweet chocolate and corn syrup. These two ingredients combine together to form what is known as chocolate clay. To make this clay you have to boil a pan of water. When it has reached a boiling point put a bowl filled with the chocolate in it and stir the chocolate until it has melted. Remove the bowl and stir the chocolate until it cools down. Then combine the corn syrup with the semisweet chocolate.

Work the chocolate clay until it softens a bit. Mold a piece of the clay in to a small tootsie roll sized cylinder. The cylinder will be the base of the flower and all of the leaves will be attached to it. After the base has been made it is time to create the leaves. Roll the clay out to around 1/8 of an inch. Cut 1 inch circles out of the clay using a bottle cap or cookie cutter. You will need 9 or 10 petals for each flower so cut the right amount. After you have all of the petals attach them to the base until you have a flower shape. Cut off the rest of the cylinder that is sticking up.

Now it is time to apply your new creations to the cake. Simply place the flowers where you want them and apply gentle pressure. This will stick the flowers to the frosting and you will have a nicely decorated cake. Although flowers are not difficult to make they can be time consuming. Many cakes require large numbers of the flowers and you can plan on working for several hours for some of them. These can be fun decorations to make and they will do a great job at making any cake look great.

The Beginners Guide to Cupcakes - Seven Tips to Get You Started

!: The Beginners Guide to Cupcakes - Seven Tips to Get You Started

Cupcakes have been around for a number of years but recently have become fashionable with a certain dedicated following. There are many reasons that cupcakes are popular not least of all the individual nature of each one. They are less messy than a full size cake and can be designed to appeal to a variety of personalities and tastes. Here are seven tips to help those new to cupcake decorating -- or some ideas to add to your own repertoire of tips.

1. Cupcakes are usually one and a half inches to two inches in diameter which means that if buying ready made toppers they need to be about the same size.

2. When traveling with cupcakes, it is best to use pre-chilled frosting which will hold its shape longer.

3. Cupcakes can be kept in the freezer for two to three days but are best eaten on the same day they are made as the icing can change and the cupcakes may look less appetizing. If you need to freeze them it is best to do so without the decoration.

4. One of the easiest ways to decorate wedding cupcakes with your own special theme is to use chocolate candy molds. Candy molds come in the shape of almost anything you can think of. This is quick and easy when doing big quantities.

5. Design the theme of your cupcake decoration to the celebration or event. For example, at Christmas use the colors of the season -- green, white, or red frosting or sprinkles, Halloween means creepy decorations -- spiders and so on.

6. For parties start with an array of colored frosting, create a gift-wrapped cupcake by icing the top and then making bows. Bows can be made using red or even other colors of licorice; sprinkles or other small candies can be used sparingly.

7. Make sure you follow the baking instructions on the recipe, so that you don't end up with burnt, undercooked or loop-sided cakes. Misshapen cupcakes look unappetizing but if this does happen to you trim the overflow and ice immediately to prevent the cupcake from drying. You can do a little camouflage if you are new to baking and decorating as long as it's not for a special occasion. Your friends won't mind.

When decorating cupcakes all you need are your imagination and some edible ingredients. There are many wonderful books and websites to give you plenty of ideas.

Should You Buy a Cupcake Stand Or Make Your Own?

If you are unfamiliar with cupcake stands, they are little tower displays that hold decorated cupcakes. They are usually organized around a central spindle. They usually have between three and five tiers, but they are available in much larger sizes as well. If you want an entirely professional looking cupcake stand, perhaps you would like to buy one at Target or at Bed, Bath & Beyond, or at an online location like Amazon or eBay. However, if you would like to save a bit of money, it's quite possible to make your own cupcake stand.

If you wish to make your own cupcake stand, it is as easy as finding some pieces of wood or other sturdy material and a few little boxes or pillars on which to support them. To make the tower attractive, you will want to use some fabric or some gift wrapping paper to cover both the pieces of wood and the supports. You can have them all match each other, or you can have them contrast with each other, depending on your taste. Another good option is to cover the surface of each level with contact paper such as you might use in a cabinet. In that Case, you can wrap the outside of the wood with a piece of ribbon or lace to decorate it. The wood can be round, which is traditional, or you can use squares or even rectangles according to your taste. You will just want to make sure that your supports are wide enough to fully support the tiers, since your guests might begin taking cupcakes from the front--you don't want the tier to become unbalanced and tip over! If you plan to use a wide support on the bottom level and progressively smaller supports as you go up, you should be fine. Are you planning a small get-together? Just use smaller pieces of wood and fewer levels. Planning a large gala event? Use larger pieces of wood and stack them up higher--as long as your tower is fully supported, the sky's the limit!

Cake Molds

When choosing cake molds there are a number of things to consider before making a purchase. Most importantly, you have to consider how much mileage you're going to get out of it. You also need to think about if the "cheap" one is the right one. Read on to learn more.

Cake molds can get hundreds of uses before having to replace them. With that in mind, it's important to find the ones that you can use over and over. It's certainly nice to have a few "one-offs" that don't get much use (Barbie shaped cake pans?) but you want to have a set that will stay with you for a long time and get lots of use. The most common and useful is the round Springform pan. Aside from round pans in a few sizes, I recommend that you also have a set of squares, a set of rectangles, and a set of teardrops. Having different sizes of each of these shaped cake molds will give you almost endless possibilities when it's time to bake!

Cupcake Molds

As I said above, these pans can last you a long time. There's a good chance that a quality cake mold will outlive you! You can certainly buy a cake mold from the dollar store, but it's not going to last. My train of thought with cake molds (and all kitchen supplies) is that if you buy a good one the first time you'll only have to replace it a few times in your life. If you buy a cheap one you might save a few bucks right now, but you'll have to keep buying it again and again throughout your life, costing more money!

St Patrick's Day Party Punch Drinks - Green Leprechaun Punch

A St. Patrick's Day party punch will be one of the first things your guests notice, so you want to make sure your punch won't disappoint them. This St. Paddy's Day Leprechaun party punch will be a hit with young or old. This Leprechaun party punch recipe is different from the usual "sherbet and soda" punch recipes, and it is a difference your guests will enjoy. This recipe is for a non-alcoholic punch that can easily be converted with a bottle of one additional ingredient

A nice "extra touch" for your punch is to have a couple theme-shaped ice blocks floating in the punch bowl. Shamrock-shaped ice blocks would look perfect. Use aluminum foil shamrock-shaped cupcake molds that you can find at your local grocery or party supply store. Fill them with water, add a few drops of green food coloring, cover with clear wrap and freeze them. Voila'! green shamrock ice blocks to float in your Leprechaun punch.
